If you want to build and revise a presentation with several people inside ChatGPT, ChatGPT Slides is designed for that workflow, provided you have Pro, Business, or Enterprise with access to ChatGPT Space. If your presentation already lives in Microsoft PowerPoint, ChatGPT for PowerPoint is the more suitable add-in; it also covers plans such as Free, Go, and Plus, with limits. These are different products. As of October 25, 2026, Slides was still rolling out gradually to eligible accounts.
Two products, two editing environments
ChatGPT Slides, announced on October 16, 2026, keeps presentations in ChatGPT Space. You can start from a conversation, files, or a template, edit text, images, shapes, tables, and charts, and ask the AI to change selected elements. People with editing permission can work simultaneously on the same deck and leave comments. Comment-only access was not available at launch.
ChatGPT for PowerPoint, by contrast, runs in a sidebar inside PowerPoint as an installed add-in. It can create decks, add or revise slides, examine the narrative, and adapt existing files without leaving Microsoft's editor. Slide structures remain editable in PowerPoint. That does not mean every complex effect, chart, or corporate template will be reproduced perfectly.
A Canaltech report dated May 22, 2026 described the add-in as a beta. OpenAI's release notes record its global general availability on July 6, 2026. The earlier report therefore should not be used to describe the product as beta in October.
Plan matrix: who is eligible?
This matrix shows announced eligibility, not a guarantee that a specific account has the feature enabled. Slides also requires Space access and is being rolled out gradually. OpenAI describes the add-in as globally available, subject to usage limits, organization settings, and PowerPoint requirements.

|---|---|---|
| Free | Not among the announced plans | Yes, limited usage |
| Go | Not among the announced plans | Yes, limited usage |
| Plus | Not among the announced plans | Yes, subject to plan allowance |
| Pro | Yes, with Space and account rollout | Yes, subject to plan allowance |
| Business | Yes, with Space, rollout, and organization policies | Yes, subject to workspace limits and policies |
| Enterprise | Yes, with Space, rollout, and organization policies | Yes, subject to workspace limits and policies |
| Edu | Not listed for Slides in the announcement | Yes, subject to workspace limits and policies |
| K-12 education | Not listed for Slides in the announcement | Yes, subject to eligibility and administration |
Do not confuse ChatGPT Work's ability to deliver a PowerPoint or Google Slides file with access to the collaborative Slides editor. The documentation distinguishes a directly delivered file from a presentation opened in Space, where Slides requires the eligibility conditions above.
Editing, collaboration, and export are not the same
With Slides, collaboration is built into the product: authorized members edit the same deck in real time, exchange comments, and request changes from ChatGPT. You can present directly in ChatGPT. On the web, the documented export options are PowerPoint (.pptx), PDF, and Google Slides. The desktop application also supports opening a presentation in PowerPoint or Keynote when installed. Check content and formatting after export; exporting is not proof of perfect visual fidelity.
With the add-in, the file stays in the PowerPoint workflow, a natural fit for people reviewing an existing corporate deck or maintaining its editable structure. Any collaboration uses the Microsoft environment's features and permissions; that does not itself constitute ChatGPT Space's native coediting. The documentation does not present the add-in as another name for Slides.
How to start and what might block access
On an eligible account, open ChatGPT Space and choose Create > Slide, or ask ChatGPT in Work to produce an editable presentation in Space. A reference deck can guide the design, but the result needs review. If the feature is not visible, your account may not have reached its rollout stage. In the Windows desktop app, lacking the necessary MXC component prevents local collaborative Slides editing: local work then uses .pptx files instead. Windows 10 does not support the component; on Windows 11, an update or administrator enablement may be needed. The web or cloud mode is the documented route to collaborative Slides.
For the add-in, open PowerPoint > Home > Add-ins, search for ChatGPT in Microsoft Marketplace, install it, and sign in with an eligible account. In organizations, an administrator may need to allow or deploy the add-in and authorize connected apps. A ChatGPT subscription does not replace the applicable licensing and terms for Microsoft PowerPoint.
Usage limits, credits, and file handling
Free and Go access to the add-in is limited. On Plus and Pro, eligible features may share an agentic usage allowance; Business, Enterprise, and Edu workspaces may consume workspace credits as flexible billing takes effect. As a documented illustration, OpenAI says a typical PowerPoint task may use 10 to 50 credits per message, depending on the model and task. This is a vendor-provided example, not a fixed price, a DTech measurement, or a consumption guarantee. These sources do not support quoting a single price in Brazilian reais for both products.
Decks may contain confidential figures or client information. The add-in runs in the Microsoft environment: applicable PowerPoint and add-in marketplace terms still matter, and ChatGPT processes the prompt and presentation content made available under plan and workspace settings. Teams must also check sharing permissions in Space, connected apps, and authorized data sources. For both products, OpenAI advises reviewing figures, citations, and edits before distribution.
Which one fits a specific job?
Choose Slides if the main job is building a new presentation with other people, collecting feedback in the same deck, and presenting or exporting it later, provided Space access is enabled. Choose the PowerPoint add-in if you have an existing .pptx deck, organizational templates, frequent PowerPoint editing, or a plan without Slides. If you only need a final file, check what Work can deliver before assuming you need the collaborative editor.
This is a document-based comparison of features and plans as of October 25, 2026, not a DTech hands-on test of the interface, export fidelity, or performance. Individual access and usage allowances can change with rollout, region, administrator settings, and platform updates.
